DAVE FLEXHAUG.   VISUAL ARTIST.

I work with cheap, available materials. I do this beyond the obvious fiscal reasons, but also for the relationships the different materials carry.

My forms can be constructed, but there is an aura of utility that cannot be recreated. These past relationships interject themselves into the work, creating new, and unintentional connections. This is how I hope the relationship between my work and the viewer exists; not necessary to fully engage to become engaged, but complex enough to become fully engaged upon investigation.

My work is informed from a life time of making due with random materials to achieve “satisfactory” results. This phenomena of making due, crosses all boundaries, physical and sociological. Could this be the last universal connection?
